রাজধানী থেকে প্রায় ৪৫৯ কিলোমিটার দূরে রংপুর বিভাগের জেলা ঠাকুরগাঁও। ঠাকুরগাঁও নামকরণ নিয়ে দুই ধরনের বক্তব্য শোনা যায়। প্রথমত, ১৮০০ সালের দিকে এক ঠাকুর পরিবারের উদ্যেগে বর্তমানে ঠাকুরগাঁও পৌরসভা এলাকার উত্তর পাশে একটি থানা স্থাপন করা হয়। সেই ঠাকুরদের নামানুসারে থানার নাম হয় ঠাকুরগাঁও। দ্বিতীয়ত, এ এলাকার ব্রাম্মণদের সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠতার কারণে এর নাম হয় ঠাকুরগাঁও। টঙ্গন নদীর তীরে অবস্থিত এ জেলার আয়তন প্রায় ১৮০৯ বর্গকিলোমিটার। এ জেলার উত্তত্রে পঞ্চগড় জেলা, পূর্বে পঞ্চগড় ও দিনাজপুর জেলা, পশ্চিমে ও দক্ষিণে ভারতের পশ্চিমবঙ্গ। টঙ্গন, পুনর্ভবা, নাগর, পাথরী, কুলীক, তলমা, ঢেপা প্রভৃতি এ জেলা দিয়ে প্রবাহিত নদী। জেলার উপজেলাগুলো হল- ঠাকুরগাঁও সদর, রাণীশংকৈল পীরগঞ্জ, হরিপুর ও বালিয়াডাঙ্গি।

Thakurgaon district of Rangpur division is about 459 km away from the capital. There are two types of statements about naming Thakurgaon. First, a police station was established on the north side of the present Thakurgaon municipality area at the initiative of a Tagore family in 1800. Thakurgaon is the name of the police station after the names of those Thakurs. Secondly, it is called Thakurgaon due to the majority of Brahmins in the area. Located on the banks of the river Tongan, the area of the district is about 1609 sq km. Panchagarh district to the north, Panchagarh and Dinajpur districts to the east, West Bengal of India to the west and south. Rivers flowing through this district like Tongan, Punarbhaba, Nagar, Pathri, Kulik, Talma, Dhepa etc. The upazilas of the district are Thakurgaon Sadar, Ranishankail Pirganj, Haripur and Baliadangi.
