Kirtankhola River

 
 

The river Kirtankhola flows by the side of Barisal city. Starting from Shaistha Bad in Barisal, the river came near Gabkhan canal and fell into Ghazalia river. At present it is also known as Barisal river.

Ashwini Kumar Town Hall
 

The traditional Ashwini Kumar Town Hall is located on Sadar Road in Barisal city. The hall was named after Ashwini Kumar Dutt, a prominent man of development in Barisal city and an eminent educationist. There is a historical event behind the establishment of this hall. In 1908, the police attacked Raja Bahadurs Habelit procession.

Ashwini Kumar Dutt proposed to build a hall to commemorate the incident. In 1920, a committee was formed with Ashwini Kumar as president and Sarat Chandra Guha as secretary. In the same year, land was also purchased from the owners of Raja Bahadurs Habeli. Construction of the hall began the following year and was completed in 1930. In the meantime, when Ashwini Kumar Dutt died in 1923, the hall was unanimously named after him in a mourning meeting.

 

Oxford Mission Church is located on Bogra Road in the city. The church here is quite interesting. Inside the church, built in the style of Greek architecture, there is a large prayer room.

Kalibari of Mukunda Das

 

Next to the city is the homestead of Charan poet Mukunda Das. Although the poet was born in Bikrampur, his father Gurudayal worked as an ardali in the Barisal court. According to that source, they became residents of Barisal.

Karapur Minabari Mosque
 

There is an ancient mosque in Karapur union of Sadar upazila of the district. Built on a high foundation, the mosque has a staircase in the middle of the front. The west wall has three mihrabs along the three entrances to the front wall. There are three domes above the mosque. There are four minarets on the front wall of the mosque and six smaller minarets in between. The mosque is thought to have been built in the eighteenth century.

 

Durga sagor
 
 

The village of Madhabpasha, about eleven kilometers north-west of Barisal city, was the abode of the Bakla Chandradwip kings. They are said to have migrated from Baufal in Patuakhali district out of fear of Mughal pirates or as a result of river erosion.

The ruins of kings palaces, temples, etc. still exist here. However, the place of interest in Madhabpathar is the ancient lake Durgasagar. It is named after King Jayanarayanas Goddess Durga. There is a small island right in the middle of the huge pond. In winter, the island is home to a large number of guest birds. Durgasagar can be easily reached by bus from Nathullabad bus station in Barisal to Banaripara.

Baitul Aman Mosque
 

The Baitul Aman Jame Mosque, built in the modern architectural style, is located in the Guthia area on the Barisal-Banaripara road, four kilometers west of Durgasagar. The locals also call it Guthia Mosque. In the center of this huge mosque in the middle of a wide open courtyard is a dome inlaid with carvings. The high minaret of the mosque is also quite interesting. It is one of the interesting mosques in Bangladesh.

Guthiyar Sandesh

Another special attraction of Guthia is the message here. This message made with cows milk is very interesting. This message is found next to Guthia Mosque. Each message is sold at seven rupees, and 300 rupees per kg.

 

Sher-e-Bangla Memorial Museum

 

The Sher-e-Bangla Memorial Museum is located at Chakhar in Banaripara, about 30 km from Barisal Sadar. The museum was established here in 1982 by the Department of Archeology. In this museum you will find all the rare photographs of Sher-e-Banglas colorful political life, various furniture used by him etc. Adjacent to the museum is the mosque established by Sher-e-Bangla in 1929. The museum is open from 10 am to 5 pm every day of the week except Saturdays.

 

Tara Mandir is located in Shikarpur village on the banks of Sugandha river, about 20 km from the city. The temple was renovated in the early part of this century after a long period of abandonment.

 

Sarkar Math is an ancient installation in Mahilara area of ​​Uzirpur upazila of the district. The rectangular monastery is about 20.21 meters high. The whole monastery is adorned with various ornaments. It is known that it was built by Sarkar Rupram Dasgupta during the reign of Nawab Alivardi Khan in the 18th century.

 

Kasba Mosque is an ancient structure located in Ramsiddhi village of Gournadi police station of the district. The length of each side of this square mosque is 16.98 meters. The walls are quite wide. It has four small minarets at its four corners. The mosque has three entrances on the front wall and one on the north wall. The entrances are adorned with terracotta ornaments. There are nine domes above the mosque. The mosque is thought to have been built during the reign of Khan Jahan.
